Pregnant? You Have Options.
Adoption
You may have just learned you are pregnant. One of the options you have is to make an adoption plan.
Adoption may be an excellent option for you and your baby. This choice allows you to continue with your life plans without the full responsibility of parenting and with the opportunity to choose who raises your child. Like all pregnancy options, it requires careful consideration.
Women choose adoption for various reasons. When a pregnancy is unexpected a woman may find herself in any of the circumstances below:
- Financially, emotionally or otherwise unable to parent at this stage in life.
- Facing an unwanted abortion.
- Without a partner or support system to share the responsibilities of parenting.
- Needing to leave an abusive relationship and break connection with the birth father.
- Desiring to accomplish certain life goals before parenthood.
- Seeking an option that would provide her child with a two-parent family.
Today, both open and closed adoptions are available. The decision to plan an adoption can be made anytime during your pregnancy or after your baby is born.
You can be involved in choosing the adoptive family. Options include placing your child with someone you know or selecting a family screened by a government-approved adoption agency. You can opt for a closed adoption to preserve your identity or an open adoption, which allows for ongoing contact with the adoptive family. With an open adoption, you can have visits or receive regular updates on your child’s growth and activities.
Planning an adoption can be emotionally difficult. There will be a grieving process. We are here to help you explore whether adoption is a good choice for you and, if chosen, to support you throughout the adoption journey and afterwards.

“I chose adoption because I wanted to give my baby the best. I loved him so much, and I knew he would have a better life with two parents who could look after him. Now I know that he’s safe, loved, and happy, which is what every parent wants for their child.”
“I chose to make an adoption plan when I found out I was pregnant. This allowed me the freedom and flexibility to continue with my life and have options for the future. I felt empowered knowing that I was making a choice to give this child a life she might not be able to otherwise have.”
